距今 7000 年前，上海西部地区青浦一带大部分已成陆。新石器时期曾存在人类活动的遗迹。今青浦的赵巷镇崧泽村和重固镇福泉山考古发现有“村落”。
7000 years ago, most part of QingPu, which is in the west of Shanghai , had formed land. There were evidences of human's action even in New Stone Age. ZhaoXiang town, SongZe country and FuQuan Mountain in ZhongGu town, which are all in now QingPu district, have been found “hamlets” by archaeologist.
崧泽曾发现过那个时候的稻谷，证实五六千年前此地已有人类开始水稻种植。
There once found the paddy of that time in SongZe that proved paddy had been planted before five or six thousand years ago here.
在古太湖东部，（今上海西部一带），在由海到陆的漫长变迁过程中，逐渐形成三角洲冲击平原。西部古太湖的水面被分割，形成湖荡，河流密布的太湖平原，淀山湖，鼋荡等大小湖荡形成，称为淀泖地区。土地肥沃形成适于稻麦，油菜棉花等农作物的耕种土地。
In the east part of ancient TaiHu Lake (the west of Shanghai nowadays), there gradually formed a delta washed plain in the transition to land from ocean. Because the ancient TaiHu Lake was divided, there formed small lakes and TaiHu Lake plain scattered with a lot of rivers. And DingShan Lake , YuanDong and other big or small lakes existed, where now are called as DingMao district. It became a cultivated land for planting rice, cole, cotton and other crops for its fertile land.
重固镇西部的福泉山，有历史名人的宅舍的踪迹，为古文化遗址。 4000 年前是一个特殊的葬址。
FuQuan Mountain ,in the west of ZhongGu town, has many traces of historic celebrities' apartments. And it is an ancient culture relic. 4000 yeas ago, there was a special cemetery there.
青龙镇，公元 219 年，孙权于青浦东北建造青龙战舰，各类匠人聚集成镇，名青龙镇。旧青龙镇属今白鹤镇。
In AD 219, SunQuan built Qinglong warship in the north east of QingPu, so varied artisans were gathered there. Then there formed a town called as Qinglong town. The Old Qinglong town belongs to now Baihe town.
青龙镇当时北临淞江，东濒大海，因其距江瞰海的优越的内航海运地理位置成为上海地区蜚声海外的最早的一个对外贸易港
In the north of that time's Qinglong town was SongJiang district and the east was ocean. Because of its superior geographic position between the Yangtze River and the sea and convenience for inland merchant, it became one of the earliest trade port ,which enjoyed a high reputation in foreign countries.
三国吴将陆逊破关羽有功封华亭侯（今松江）。唐时，华亭升镇为县，青龙镇遂为镇建制。
In the age of Three-Dynasty(San-Guo), LuXun, a general of Wu-Dynasty, defeated GuanYu (Shu Dynasty). So he was obliged as HuaTing Earl.(now SongJiang). In Tang Dynasty, HuaTing was up to county from burgh, then Qinglong town became town organization.

6000多年前，上海西部已经成陆，而东部仍为海洋。
More than 6000 years ago, the west part of Shanghai had become land, but the east was still ocean.
由于长江和海浪的作用，在今太仓，外冈，马桥，胡桥一线，形成一条沙带，称为 “ 冈 身 ” ，供卫了西部的陆地，因此，这条 “ 冈身 ” 对于后来上海先民定居于此地，发挥了重要 的作用。
Because of the influence of Yangtze River and the sea, there formed a sand belt which was called “ shore-body ” in the line of TaiCang, WaiGang, MaQiao, HuQiao. And the west land was secured by it, so the “ shore-body ” had played a very important role for the ancestors of Shanghai settling down here.
这条古老的 “ 冈身 ” ，至今仍然存在。
The old “ shore-body ” still exists now.
商朝时，周族一支在太伯率领下来到江南，太伯被封于吴，人称吴太伯，为吴国开创 者。
In Shang Dynasty,(abt 2500 years ago), Zhou tribe came to the south of Yangtze River under the leading of Tai Bo, Tai Bo was obliged in Wu and he was called as Wu Tai Bo who was the inaugurator of Country Wu.
吴国筑都城于今苏州，现在的上海当时属于吴国。
Country Wu set the capital in today ' s SuZhou and present-day ' s Shanghai belong to Country Wu at that time.
因西部水环山拱，林木茂密，成为吴国贵族们的狩猎场地。
Because that the west land was surrounded by rivers, secured by mountains and prosperous of forest, it became as the hunt site for aristocrat of Country Wu.
吴王常外出打猎，为此在今松江一带营建华亭，作为贵族们的馆舍，农事生产逐渐展开。
Emperor of Wu often hunted outside, so he built many luxury pavilions as residences for the aristocrat. And agricultural production was gradually developed.
以会稽（今绍兴）为中心的越国也推进到了金山一带。
Country Yue, whose center was KuiJi (today ' s ShaoXin), also extended its frontier to the district of JinShan (south Shanghai).
越国灭了吴国，楚国又灭了越国，这一区域先后曾归越国，楚国管辖。楚国贵族黄歇被封于江南， 称为 “ 春申君 ” 。
Country Yue conquered Country Wu, and then Country Chu conquered Country Yue, so this district was dominated by Country Yue at first ,then by Country Chu. One of Country Chu aristocrat, HuangXie who was called as “ Chun Shen Jun ” , was obliged in the South of Yangtze River.
后 “ 申 ” 即成为上海的简称之一。
So “ Shen ” became one of Shanghai ' s short names later.
